Summary

Hades and Persephone's love-struck misadventures。

The classic tale of Greek mythology, but 100% more awkwardly relatable。 Hades is the officious, antisocial ruler of the Underworld; Persephone, daughter of Demeter, is an earth goddess of growth and renewal - they've been crushing on each other for the past two centuries。 But when a festival (and a little liquid courage) present an opportunity to put an end to their olympian will-they-won't-they, a meddlesome pantheon and several titanic misassumptions threaten to give every god in the sky the wrong impression。。。 and leave their romance dead before it can bloom。

This introduction to Persephone and Hades’ story is short and sweet, and the art style is amazing, I really enjoyed it 🖤 Can’t wait for volume 2!

This was adorable, and I really enjoyed it。 The way this retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth handles the story as a cute, awkward romance is totally squee-worthy, and I loved the overall tone- light, funny, tongue-in-cheek。 The characters are well developed; we get a good feel for their personalities, and not just Hades and Persephone- Zeus and Demeter are fleshed out as well, and I feel we'll get to know other deities in the future as well。 We get a good sense of the world as well, and t This was adorable, and I really enjoyed it。 The way this retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth handles the story as a cute, awkward romance is totally squee-worthy, and I loved the overall tone- light, funny, tongue-in-cheek。 The characters are well developed; we get a good feel for their personalities, and not just Hades and Persephone- Zeus and Demeter are fleshed out as well, and I feel we'll get to know other deities in the future as well。 We get a good sense of the world as well, and the coloring is a big part of that。 Everything about the art is gorgeous, really, and I love the emotional cues in Persephone and Demeter's crowns, and in the vegetation around them。 I can't wait to get more of this story- I might *know* what's going to happen next, but I don't know how it will happen in this version, and I'm looking forward to finding out! 。。。more

Hades & Persephone reimagined as a bit of a light romcom。 While it doesn't really reinvent the wheel, it's still sweet, with lovely character designs and absolutely beautiful art & attention to detail (Persephone's crown changing with her mood is adorable!)。 Also it's nice to find a retelling where Hades isn't a brooding, snarling jerk, and the author's knowledge of the Greek pantheon is thoughtfully integrated。Unfortunately this first volume is honestly only 4-5 scenes - with conversations runn Hades & Persephone reimagined as a bit of a light romcom。 While it doesn't really reinvent the wheel, it's still sweet, with lovely character designs and absolutely beautiful art & attention to detail (Persephone's crown changing with her mood is adorable!)。 Also it's nice to find a retelling where Hades isn't a brooding, snarling jerk, and the author's knowledge of the Greek pantheon is thoughtfully integrated。Unfortunately this first volume is honestly only 4-5 scenes - with conversations running in circles for a longggg time。 It left me feeling impatient more than anything。 。。。more

This was honestly quite a delight, with the worst thing about it being that title。 Punderworld re-imagines Hades and Persephone's story as one of two awkward people trying to figure out how to be with the person they kinda sorta have had a crush on for 200 years, give or take。 There's something silly and relatable about this, from Hades's awkward conversation with Zeus about his crush, to Persephone's attempts at having a conversation with her mother that just end up sounding like a teenage girl This was honestly quite a delight, with the worst thing about it being that title。 Punderworld re-imagines Hades and Persephone's story as one of two awkward people trying to figure out how to be with the person they kinda sorta have had a crush on for 200 years, give or take。 There's something silly and relatable about this, from Hades's awkward conversation with Zeus about his crush, to Persephone's attempts at having a conversation with her mother that just end up sounding like a teenage girl yelling at her mom about how she just doesn't get it! Throw in some well-meaning meddling from Zeus, some adventurous shenanigans, and this volume sets up a cute story。 The art is charming all the way through, Sejic does some lovely work from the characters to the scenery。 I love the design of Hades and Persephone, and how even the speech bubbles are special depending on the character talking。 The color work is really lovely as well。 Review copy provided by Edelweiss for review!

The weirdest thing about this book is that the only pun you can basically find in it, is in it's terrible title, Punderworld。It's a comic adaptation of the story of Hades basically forcing Persephone to be his wife, although in this version she's really into Hades, which is a thing, apparently。This used to be a webcomic, which explains its wonky pacing - the story moves slo-o-ow and it thinks its romance is more involving than it finally is。The art is good, and it took me a while to realise what The weirdest thing about this book is that the only pun you can basically find in it, is in it's terrible title, Punderworld。It's a comic adaptation of the story of Hades basically forcing Persephone to be his wife, although in this version she's really into Hades, which is a thing, apparently。This used to be a webcomic, which explains its wonky pacing - the story moves slo-o-ow and it thinks its romance is more involving than it finally is。The art is good, and it took me a while to realise what it reminds me of, but it's Max Sarin's excellent work on Giant Days。The story didn't grip me that much, but it's still quite funny。One thing I do have to pick the book up on, is the insane amount of spelling mistakes。 And these aren't only small ones, there's things like spelling 'technically' as 'technicly'。 I normally don't comment on this, because I'm reading an advance copy, so I certainly hope that these are corrected before publication。(Picked up an ARC through Edelweiss) 。。。more

An adorably fresh take on a classic "love" story。 The art is beautiful and adds a pleasant brightness to a story about the Greek god of the Underworld。 The story develops naturally and plays like a graphic novel version of a rom-com。 Definitely recommend for anyone who likes graphic novels, Greek mythology, rom-coms, and fresh takes on old tales。 An adorably fresh take on a classic "love" story。 The art is beautiful and adds a pleasant brightness to a story about the Greek god of the Underworld。 The story develops naturally and plays like a graphic novel version of a rom-com。 Definitely recommend for anyone who likes graphic novels, Greek mythology, rom-coms, and fresh takes on old tales。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this。 It's the tale of Hades and Persephone reimagined as a sweet romance。 They are both shy and awkward, which seems to get them in all kinds of misadventures。 Sejic's art is perfect。 Her ability to display expression brings so much to this comic。 It reminds me some of Terry Moore in that regard。 The coloring is fantastic。 It pops off the page。 The book feels like a Disney cartoon for adults。 I loved everything about it except the title。Received a review copy from Image and Ede I really enjoyed this。 It's the tale of Hades and Persephone reimagined as a sweet romance。 They are both shy and awkward, which seems to get them in all kinds of misadventures。 Sejic's art is perfect。 Her ability to display expression brings so much to this comic。 It reminds me some of Terry Moore in that regard。 The coloring is fantastic。 It pops off the page。 The book feels like a Disney cartoon for adults。 I loved everything about it except the title。Received a review copy from Image and Edelweiss。 。。。more

Punderworld is a disneyfied telling of the love story of Persephone and Hades from Greek Mythology。 I mean that in two ways。 First, the art seemed stylistically reminiscent [to my neophyte eye] of a movie like “Frozen” (all the people are preternaturally good-looking / charisma-laden and even the Underworld has the sort of charm that makes it seem like it would be a nice place to visit。) The other sense in which it reminded me of a Disney story is that, while it comes from Greek Mythology, it is Punderworld is a disneyfied telling of the love story of Persephone and Hades from Greek Mythology。 I mean that in two ways。 First, the art seemed stylistically reminiscent [to my neophyte eye] of a movie like “Frozen” (all the people are preternaturally good-looking / charisma-laden and even the Underworld has the sort of charm that makes it seem like it would be a nice place to visit。) The other sense in which it reminded me of a Disney story is that, while it comes from Greek Mythology, it is written and drawn to maximize resonance with a present-day American reader, and would probably be fundamentally unrecognizable to an ancient Greek even if translated into ancient Greek。 (As the “Aladdin” animated movie would not resonate with an Arab viewership as much as it would Americans。) Punderworld could also be thought of as a Rom-Com of the star couple of the Underworld。 [I assume the title is a “Branjelina” like meet cute confection of a word。]tThe story dragged a bit in the first half, but made good in the second, and I ended up enjoying the book more than I expected to。 If you’re up for a disney-esque telling of this ancient Greek love story, give it a look。 。。。more
